OPEN-SOURCE FIRMWARE FOR THE M-VAVE FM-1
A six-track groovebox with a parameter-lock sequencer, inspired by Elektron's Model:Cycles and Model:Samples. Two flavors, one workflow: pick FM synthesis or samples, and switch whenever you like.

SIX FM MACHINES
Kick, snare, metal, perc, tone and chord, each with its own take on PITCH, DECAY, COLOR and SHAPE, plus SWEEP and CONTOUR. On TONE and CHORD the pitch is shown as a note, so chords are easy to program.

FM1-Model PCM
ONE SAMPLE PER TRACK
A sample player with PITCH, DECAY up to infinite, START, LENGTH, a resonant low and high-pass filter, loop and reverse. Lock a different sample on any step.
- 35 factory samples made from 15 sounds (generated drums and plucks, CC0 piano, flute and sax), or your own through the sample loader
- Keeps its project in flash slot P2
One flavor is installed at a time. Each keeps its own project, so installing the other one loses nothing.
THE SAME ON BOTH
Sequencer
Six tracks, 96 patterns, up to 128 steps a track. Parameter locks, trig conditions, micro timing, retrigs, chains, live and grid recording.
LFO and FX
One LFO per track with several waves and destinations. A shared delay and reverb with per-track sends.
Screen
Every knob as a ring with its value below it, a page strip, the 16 trigs with a playhead, battery and CPU meters.
MIDI
Notes and CCs per track, clock in and out, transport and program change, over USB.
USB audio
The FM-1 shows up as an audio input on your computer: record it straight into your DAW.
Kits and projects
Presets, kits and a project saved to flash, checked at every boot. A STARTUP menu for resets and a panel test.

Read the manual
Installing, the panel, the sequencer and both sound engines: the manual covers it all.

Install a flavor
Write the FM or PCM package over USB with the installer. The official firmware can be put back the same way.

Bring your sounds
On PCM, the sample loader swaps the samples in your browser, about 35 seconds in all.
Installing third-party firmware is at your own risk. FM1-Model comes with no warranty.
